Our firm, along with Jensen BRV Structural Engineering, is working with the Penn Yan Theatre Company on the phased rehabilitation of the historic Sampson Theatre, a long-vacant downtown landmark with strong community significance. The theatre is notable for its early poured-in-place concrete construction, an uncommon building method, making the preservation of its historic envelope and structural system central to the rehabilitation effort.

Phase 1A focuses on critical exterior and structural stabilization, including concrete façade repairs, basement structural reinforcement, selective window and door stabilization, and drainage improvements. Phase 1B will advance the project toward occupancy through interior rehabilitation, accessibility improvements, and building system upgrades, with a continued focus on protecting and celebrating the theatre’s historic fabric. Together, these phases support the long-term preservation of the Sampson Theatre while helping return the building to active use as a cultural, accessible, and community-centered asset in Penn Yan.
