  • Arnot Art Museum Column Restoration
  • Budget:

Phase 1 of the exterior restoration project at the Arnot Art Museum includes the restoration and reconstruction of the museum’s monumental wood entry portico columns and associated façade improvements. Existing deteriorated column bases and lower assemblies will be carefully reconstructed with new concealed structural support systems and historically compatible base details designed to improve long-term durability and weather protection while maintaining the historic appearance of the primary façade.

As part of the work, the columns will be selectively shortened and rebuilt to coordinate with future Phase 2 accessibility improvements, which will include raising the upper entry portico level to accommodate a new ADA-accessible front entrance.

Additional Phase 1 improvements include replacement of the monumental stone entry steps, new handrails, upgraded exterior lighting, and installation of a new automatic door operator system.

The project is intended to preserve the historic character of the museum while improving accessibility, safety, and long-term building performance.

Phase 1 construction is anticipated for completion in Spring 2026, with Phase 2 accessibility improvements currently anticipated for completion in 2028.
