As Executive Director of Market Street Restoration Agency from 1990 throughout 2001, Elise Johnson-Schmidt led the effort to restore Corning’s historic downtown with passion. She initiated and spearheaded the effort to develop second-story housing, aimed at bringing 24/7 vitality to the city’s historic commercial district. Under her management, MSRA provided guidance for more than 150 façade renovations, collaborated with the City of Corning to develop signage design policy and ordinances, and provided leadership and guidance in the restoration of historic Market Street as a key element in economic development.She provided historic preservation technical assistance throughout the region and led efforts to revitalize numerous historic structures in the Southern Tier. Her longstanding relationships with state agencies and leadership in the preservation community contributed to her ability to fuel progress on Market Street. JS&A continues to provide consulting to MSRA on a wide variety of projects.
