Connors Upper Story
Housing - Adaptive Reuse
Built in the late 1800s, this commercial anchor in
downtown Corning, New York was the community’s first
building to undergo historic development of upper
story housing. The first floor continues to be used
for retail. The second and third floors were opened
up and developed into one 2800-square-foot and three
1300-square-foot apartments opening from central
hallways.
Since the third floor was originally a
dance hall, the third-floor apartment was designed
to retain the open space and character of the
original floorplan. The handsome original woodwork,
hardwood floors, ceilings and windows were restored,
and spaces designed to accommodate comfortable
living and gracious entertaining. Each of the three
apartments has a different distinctive design theme;
all reflect the building's 19th century origins. A balcony
offers outdoor living with views of neighboring
Riverfront Park and vistas of the hills beyond. |
