Chautauqua Institution -
Preservation Planning
Founded in 1874, Chautauqua Institution is a unique
national treasure. Abundant summer programs in the
arts, education, religion, and recreation create a
vital 250-acre lakeside community that includes more
than 400 late nineteenth century properties. The
Chautauqua Institution is a National Historic
District, listed on the National Register of
Historic Places, and a National Historic Landmark.
In 2003, Johnson-Schmidt and Associates was retained
to oversee a survey of all the historic properties
and develop a plan and guidelines for community
members to maintain the architectural integrity of
their properties while addressing maintenance issues
and renovations that enhance current lifestyles. We
continue to provide a full range of assessment and
architectural services to individuals and
organizations on a case-by-case basis. |
